Ligue1: no PSG, the best attack is that of Rennes

Terrier has overtaken Kylian in the top scorers, Laborde follows him with one goal less (14 goals). The Breton club scored 62 goals, 4 more than PSG, whose trident remains a mirage of the transfer market

It had to be the attack smashing opponents, both in the league and in the Champions League. A historic trident, never seen before, to give a spectacle to every game. And yet the PSG attack has so far remained a market mirage. Eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League, the Emir of Qatar’s club is certainly first in the Ligue 1 standings, but the best attacking department is that of Rennes, third, with 63 goals in all. Four more than the PSG of Messi, Neymar and Mbappé. The Parisian yesterday was also overtaken yesterday by Terrier, the most prolific of the Breton strikers, with 16 seals. One more than the French World Champion, ousted at the top also by his national team colleague Ben Yedder, now first with 17 goals.

But Rennes is the team that scores the most. In the last month, between the championship and the cups, also thanks to a stabilized midfield with the summer insertion of the effective Santamaria, the goals were 22, in seven games, against 8 in six of the PSG. Above all shines Terrier, one who seemed to have lost the way of the goal, after a couple of mild seasons at Lyon. The arrival a year ago of the former Lyon coach Bruno Genesio, on the Breton bench, gave new impetus to the 25-year-old Frenchman, never called up so far by coach Deschamps, but who still ended up in the notebooks of various Spanish and Italian clubs .

Formed in Lille, emerged in Strasbourg, Terrier was given more freedom of movement from the left flank where he had been a bit pinned down by previous coach, Julien Stephan, who migrated to Strasbourg in the meantime, third best attack of the season. Greater flexibility that has borne fruit: 16 goals in Ligue 1, five in the last month, none in Europe where, however, beyond the elimination in the round of 16 of the Conference League, he made a contribution with 2 assists. Despite that good-boy face, Terrier has become a ruthless area killer, and not only that, considering his skills in shooting from outside. Yesterday, in the 6-1 at Metz, he scored his first double of the season, after his hat-trick in December at Saint Etienne. In all, Rennes have collected 34 points thanks to his goals, and to the saves of the Italian-Senegalese Gomis, for now in the infirmary.

Guirassy did the rest yesterday against the Lorraine club, with three goals to reach 8. But even better is Laborde, who arrived at the end of August from Montpellier, where he had scored 16 goals last season. Two less than this year, including the three summers with the former club. For Terrier, Rennes spent 12 million and 15 for Laborde. In all, less than the salary of Messi, which cost zero euros but who scored only two goals in Ligue 1. Neymar, thanks to the usual injuries, is stopped at five goals. Only Mbappé travels at a noble pace: 15 goals (and 10 assists, as many as Messi and Bourigeaud of Rennes). But last year, after 29 days, he had scored three more goals, to then close with the third title of top scorer in a row (27). This time the competition is fiercer.
