Zonta van den Goorbergh failed to capitalize on his strong qualifying from Saturday at Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo during the Moto2 race of the Gran Premio Michelin de la República Argentina on Sunday. The RW Racing GP driver slipped on the second lap, putting an early end to his race.

After an impressive Saturday in Argentina, where Zonta van den Goorbergh qualified in a creditable fourteenth place for the Moto2 race of the Gran Premio Michelin de la República Argentina on Sunday, the race day also started very promising for the RW Racing GP rider on Sunday. .

During the warm-up, Van den Goorbergh recorded a creditable sixteenth lap time with which nothing seemed to stand in the way of a good result in the race. Unfortunately, it turned out differently on Sunday afternoon. After a reasonable start to the race, things went wrong in the second lap riding in sixteenth place. The 16-year-old driver braked a fraction too late in turn two, landing on the ‘dirty’ part of the track, resulting in an innocent slide and an early end of the race.

Zonta van den Goorbergh: “I think we can look back on a successful weekend here in Argentina, even though the race didn’t deliver what we hoped for. Anyway, I think the training and qualifying went very well, much better than in Qatar and Indonesia. The warm-up also went well and all the ingredients were there for a good result in the race. Unfortunately, this turned out differently. My start was not very good at first, but then I was able to make up quite a few places in the first lap. On the second lap I couldn’t get the bike to a complete stop going into turn two, I hit the filthy part of the track and lost the front end. A shame, too bad, but things like this are part of racing. The most important thing is that we managed to make good progress again this weekend. We are now going to Austin, I can’t wait to get back on my RW Racing GP bike there next Friday.”

Jarno Janssen, RW Racing GP team manager: “Yes, what can I say. Too bad the race ended so early for us. We did not expect this, not even Zonta. I think Zonta had the pace to be in the race for 13th to 16th place. The start of the race was not quite good, but Zonta immediately recovered. However, a very small and innocent mistake in the second round was immediately punished and that meant the end of the game. Anyway, looking back on the weekend here, I think we can’t help but be very proud. Really a lot of praise for Zonta for the way he presented himself here this weekend, he has made a big impression in the paddock. On to Austin, the next race where Barry will be there again.”

The next Grand Prix is already on the schedule in a few days when the Circuit of the Americas in Austin will be the venue for the fourth Grand Prix of the season, the Red Bull Grand Prix, on the weekend of April 8-10. the Americas.
