Feyenoord managed to beat Willem II in its own Kuip in the run-up to the quarterfinals of the Conference League. The dominant Feyenoord made the difference with only two goals. The match is discussed in the FC Rijnmond podcast of the regional broadcaster Rijnmond. Sinclair Bischop begins: “A match that we have seen so many times, they were lord and master but did not come up with enough great chances and goals.”
Despite his busy travel schedule, Luis Sinisterra was indispensable for Feyenoord. The gentlemen of the podcast agree that Slot simply cannot do without the winger. “He is breaking open the game again. But Feyenoord has too few players with the class to break open such matches. Not even with standard situations.” Still, Frank Stout thinks that the Rotterdammers themselves had the opportunity to make it much less difficult for themselves: “If Dessers just makes him after eight seconds, you play a different game,” said the presenter.
The development of Reiss Nelson is also discussed. The Englishman has definitively driven Alireza Jahanbakhsh from the base and is playing better and better. However, the gentlemen are not yet convinced: “Yield is zero point zero” according to Sinclair Bischop. Ruud van Os also does not think that Feyenoord can keep the winger for next season: “Of course he will not make it to Arsenal 1, so he will end up in the lower regions of English football. Or Feyenoord should buy him, but I don’t see that happening.” That is why the gentlemen think that Arne Slot would be better off choosing Jens Toornstra in the home match against Slavia at the expense of the Englishman.
Stout mentions that the level of one midfielder is very disappointing to him and wonders aloud why Til is always the first player on the scoresheet. Bischop goes there in “De Guus Til after the winter break is completely different from before the winter break. But we have also seen that with Linssen, and it now seems to be coming again. So that’s going to pick up again.” Ruud van Os states that Til should always play, given the fourteen goals he scored. Marcus Pedersen’s game was not easy for the men: “If you constantly make the wrong choices on the back line, it becomes difficult to create opportunities. He also got one more chance and it went high, but then you can still say: it is a defender.”
The goalkeeper issue continues to keep the men busy. Marciano also did not make a strong impression against Willem II and it is feared that the Israeli could play tricks on the Rotterdammers. The Rotterdammers are therefore in a difficult position because of Justin Bijlow’s injury sensitivity. The gentlemen think that Feyenoord needs a better second goalkeeper, but realize that it is difficult to attract a better goalkeeper than Marciano to sit on the bench.
It was also announced this week that Sipke Hulshoff will not opt for an Eredivisie club but will become assistant to Arne Slot next season. Bischop says about this: “And he is tactically very strong, it seems that he was extremely important at FC Volendam as an assistant to Wim Jonk.” According to Bischop, Feyenoord should eventually train Hulshoff to become the first trainer at Feyenoord. The Frisian way of playing is in line with that of Slot.
