As of the 2022/’23 season, a number of important changes will take place in the competition of the senior men’s reserve teams. The most important change is that the boundary between the A and B categories is raised and in all districts lies between the reserve 2nd class and reserve 3rd class. This applies to both Saturday and Sunday football. As of the 2022/’23 season, the reserve 3rd division in the whole country therefore belongs to category B.
Furthermore, from the 2022/’23 season, a free registration will be used in the reserve 2nd class and an autumn and spring competition will be played in this class.
The structure of each district competition (both Saturday and Sunday) will look like this from next season:
- 1 group reserve main class
- 2 groups reserve 1st class
- X pools reserve 2nd class (= free registration, category A)
- X pools reserve 3rd class (= free registration, category B)
- X groups reserve 4th class and lower (= free registration, category B)
Reason for the changes
For a number of seasons we have seen that the interest in competing in category A of the senior men’s reserve teams is decreasing. One of the reasons for this is that more and more teams/players want to play at a more recreational level. A level where it is easier to move matches and it is possible to record a bad day. In addition, we see that a number of associations of which a team previously played in the top of reserve football now chooses to register a team for the O23 competition.
The declining interest in playing in category A has already led to changes in the reserve football competition on Sunday in the North and West II districts. The first results of these changes are positive.
Free registration in the reserve 2nd class
Because from the 2022/’23 season a free registration will be used in the reserve 2nd class, all teams that want to have the opportunity to play in category A. Teams that do not want this, with the exception of the teams that play in the reserve main and 1st class, have the option to opt for category B.
This also means that teams that now play in a high reserve class and want to change matchdays (for example from Sunday to Saturday) can immediately enter the reserve 2nd class. On the basis of current regulations, this is possible at the most in the reserve 4th class (= highest level of category B).
Autumn and spring competition in reserve 2th class
The free registration in the reserve 2nd class means that the competition in this class is played in the form of an autumn and spring competition. This is necessary to guarantee a good connection with the reserve 1st class. The best teams from the autumn competition qualify for the promotion groups in the spring. The teams that performed less well in the autumn will play in the ‘non-promotion groups’ in the spring.
No post-competition in reserve 2th and 3th class current season
The decision to use free registration in the reserve 2nd class in all district competitions of the reserve teams of men and seniors from the 2022/’23 season means that the play-offs between the reserve 2nd and reserve 3rd class will be canceled at the end of this season. expired. Because of the free registration, these teams can come out in the reserve 2nd class anyway next season.
Reserve teams that want to change matchdays
For associations of which a reserve team plays in category A in the current season and wants to change the match day with effect from next season, this must be notified in writing before May 1. After all, this concerns a withdrawal from category A. This message can be sent to email@example.com†
