After last week’s 1-3 defeat in London, Chelsea knew it was a tough job on Tuesday evening. However, the team of coach Thomas Tuchel surprised friend and foe by putting a 0-3 score on the Bernabéu scoreboard after 75 minutes.

That was when Real stars Luka Modric and Karim Benzema chose to stand up. The Croat helped his team with a wonderful pass towards extra time, after which his French colleague in the striker passed the verdict with a rock-hard header: 2-3.

Real Madrid will face the winner of the diptych between Manchester City and Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals. The English defend a 1-0 lead in the Spanish capital tomorrow.

Dream start Chelsea

Everything initially seemed to fall out for Chelsea on a sensational evening in Madrid. After fifteen minutes, Mason Mount took the lead and shortly after the break Antonio Rüdiger headed both teams on equal terms over two matches.

When Marcos Alonso chased the ball into the corner not much later, it seemed that it was over for the mediocre playing Real Madrid. The VAR came to the rescue of the home team by disallowing the Spaniard’s goal due to hands, but a few minutes later Timo Werner scored the third Chelsea goal.

Modric took his team by the hand just in time by serving substitute Rodrygo with an unparalleled pass outside the foot. His goal meant extra time. In that it was Benzema, good for a hat trick last week, who headed in the crucial 2-3. Tuchel brought Hakim Ziyech, but the former Ajax player could not prevent the title holder from London being eliminated.
