PEC Zwolle is relegated from Eredivisie, other decisions will be made on Sunday

PEC Zwolle has been relegated from the Eredivisie. It failed to grab the very last straw at Sparta: it went down 2-0 and will play a level lower next season. Next Sunday, the other decisions will fall at the bottom of the Eredivisie.

Sparta – PEC 2-0
PEC had been working on a great series in recent months and suddenly participated again for enforcement, although it suddenly became an end after the defeat against FC Utrecht last weekend. Adil Auassar’s early 1-0 did not help PEC’s confidence. The Sparta captain made Het Kasteel explode with a goal from close range.

Thomas van den Belt hit the bar on behalf of PEC, after which Vito van Crooij doubled the score for Sparta. As a result, things started to look worse for PEC, which was overrun by Sparta in the initial phase.

PEC trainer Dick Schreuder, who has gotten it right in recent months, switched offensively and more or less opted for an all-or-nothing tactic. Maduka Okoye had to stretch regularly to keep PEC from scoring. He saved on a header from Auassar, who almost outsmarted his own goalkeeper, and a shot from Pelle Clement.

Also in the final phase, the necessary goal for a turnaround was not forthcoming, as a result of which PEC is relegated. Sparta climbs to place fifteen and is virtually safe.

RKC – Heracles 2-0
RKC Waalwijk is officially safe. It won 2-0 on Wednesday evening in front of Heracles Almelo’s own audience. The first danger in Waalwijk came from Heracles. Goalkeeper Etiënne Vaessen had to save twice, but then saw how Michiel Kramer opened the score for the home club. This was preceded by a mistake by Heracles, which Finn Stokkers eagerly took advantage of. He lost to Kramer, who scored. RKC decided the game in the second half via Richard van der Venne, with a beautiful lob.

Heracles is fourteenth and is therefore virtually safe, but the difference with number sixteen Fortuna is only two points and Heracles also plays in the last game against Sparta, the number fifteen.

Fortuna Sittard – Vitesse 1-2
And it remains blood-curdlingly exciting for Fortuna Sittard. It was well on its way to a victory over Vitesse, but still went down. They had opportunities in the first half and took the lead just before half-time through a utilized penalty from Paul Gladon. The atmosphere changed when Million Manhoef quickly equalized again.

And Loïs Openda gave Vitesse the lead after more than an hour of play. Fortuna tried to get a point in the final phase and Vitesse was close to 1-3, but there were no more goals. Fortuna plays off at NEC on Sunday.

Cambuur – Willem II 1-1
In Leeuwarden, Willem II stayed alive with hanging and strangling by taking a point against SC Cambuur. The home team took the lead just before half-time with a goal from Sekou Sylla, but was unable to hold on to that lead. Derrick Köhn, also a left back, led Willem II to a point.

Due to the draw and the results on the other fields, Willem II still has a small chance of enforcement. The number seventeen in the Eredivisie, who convincingly won against Heracles Almelo last weekend, is two points behind Fortuna Sittard and Sparta. Next Sunday FC Utrecht has to win at home.
