PSV also brings football star Worm back to the Netherlands

10:00 am PSV will also bring Siri Worm back to the Dutch football fields after Inessa Kaagman. The 30-year-old Worm comes transfer-free from the German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The defender signed a two-year contract in Eindhoven.

“I am happy to return to the Netherlands,” says Worm, who has played 41 international matches for the Orange squad. “A foreign adventure was high on my list and has brought me a lot. With instructive and beautiful experiences I now return and I hope to be of value to PSV. The ambitions are great and I love that.”

Worm previously played football for FC Twente and the English clubs Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. PSV announced the arrival of Kaagman earlier this week. The 26-year-old midfielder, twelve-time international of Orange, comes from the English club Brighton & Hove Albion. PSV will also strengthen itself for next season with Kika van Es. The Orange international still plays for FC Twente.

PSV will finish in third place in the Women’s Eredivisie this season. FC Twente defends a lead of 3 points over Ajax in the last two rounds of the competition. On Saturday, the defending champion will face PSV, Ajax will play against Feyenoord.

Chelsea fears Kovacic will miss FA Cup final

08:53 am Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel fears that he will not be able to rely on Mateo Kovacic on Saturday at Wembley in the FA Cup final against Liverpool. The Croatian midfielder suffered an ankle injury in the 3-0 league win at Leeds United on Wednesday after a rough tackle by Daniel James, who had to go off the field with a red card.

Kovacic tried to play for a while after an injury treatment, but soon had to be replaced with a significant swelling on his left ankle that folded over. “He’s in a lot of pain,” Tuchel said. “I am a trainer and not a medical expert, but I think the chances are very small that he can participate in the cup final. Mateo fears the same. But maybe a miracle will happen, we’re trying to make that happen.” Kovacic is a fixture with the ‘Blues’.

Chelsea took a big step towards qualification for the Champions League with the win over Leeds United. Tuchel’s side is now firmly in third place in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Liverpool also faced each other in the final of the League Cup at the end of February, when the ‘Reds’ won via penalties.

Bucks again lead in NBA play-offs

07:53 o’clock The Milwaukee Bucks basketball players have once again taken the lead in the second round of the NBA playoffs. The Bucks won their fifth game against the Boston Celtics in the best-of-seven series, 110-107. The team from Milwaukee can finish it on Friday in front of its own audience and reach the final in the east.

The reigning NBA champions have already led the series twice against the Celtics, but the Boston side has always tied the score. Game five at Boston’s TD Garden was spectacular. The home team ran out to a 14-point lead in the last quarter, but led by Giannis Antetokounmpo (40 points and 11 rebounds) and Jrue Holiday (24 points), the Bucks still won the game in the last minutes.

Memphis Grizzlies avoided elimination in the west by convincingly winning the fifth game against the Golden State Warriors: 134-95. The Grizzlies, who had to do without their injured star player Ja Morant, reduced their deficit to 3-2. The Warriors will have their second chance to make it to the finals in San Francisco on Friday.

Jokic MVP of NBA for second year in a row

07:15 am Serbian basketball player Nikola Jokic has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second year in a row. The 27-year-old Denver Nuggets center received by far the most votes in an election among sports reporters. Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) from Cameroon finished second, the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) was third.

Jokic averaged more than 27 points, almost 14 rebounds and 8 assists per game in the regular season. The Nuggets finished in sixth place in the west and qualified directly for the playoffs, but the Golden State Warriors were too strong in the first round (4-1).

Jokic was surprised at home in the Serbian town of Sombor with the MVP prize after a round of horse riding, as can be seen on video images. He received the crystal trophy in front of family and friends. Jokic is the thirteenth basketball player to be named MVP two years in a row. Antetokounmpo received the prestigious award in 2019 and 2020, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, among others, were also named the most valuable player of the American basketball league for several consecutive years.
