Nations LeagueSpain has narrowly missed a point from the visit to the Czech Republic. Luis Enrique’s team came alongside in the second game in the Nations League just before time: 2-2. Portugal did great business at home against Switzerland. Thanks in part to two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, they won 4-0.
Ronaldo started on the bench in the 1-1 draw with Spain earlier this week, but was in the starting line against Switzerland. In his 188th international match, the leading role was again for the Manchester United phenomenon. The 1-0 came from the rebound of his free kick, the 2-0 and the 3-0 he made himself.
Ronaldo’s goals brought tears to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, his mother who was sitting in the stands. Ronaldo’s newborn son died in April. He and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez were going to have twins, but only the daughter was born healthy.
Ronaldo’s third of the evening was crossed out after VAR caught Jota for offside. João Cancelo determined the final score at 4-0, enabled by substitute Bernardo Silva. Ronaldo was ready to use a penalty in the final phase, but on closer inspection it turned out that the foul on Nuno Mendes was made outside the 16. The free kick was then taken from the top corner by Kobel.
Czech Republic – Spain
The Spanish defense did not have things in order against the Czech Republic. The offside trap in particular failed time and again. Jakub Pesek took advantage before the break, Jan Kuchta did that afterwards from a wonderful pass from FC Twente attacker Vaclav Cerny. Both times, the visitors managed to tie the score again. First via 17-year-old Gavi, in the final phase via a striking header from Inigo Martinez.
Gavi, the great talent of Barcelona, crowned himself with his goal as the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish team. At 17 years and 304 days, he is seven days younger than teammate Ansu Fati in his first goal.
In League B, Ajax captain Dusan Tadic was important with two assists on behalf of Serbia in the 4-1 win over Slovenia. The attacker came in at a 1-1 score. Norway won 1-2 against Sweden thanks to two hits from Erling Haaland. The 21-year-old phenomenon, who will switch from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City next summer, has already scored 18 hits after 19 international matches. He made the first from the penalty spot. In stoppage time, young Manchester United striker Anthony Elanga did something back. Feyenoord player Marcus Pedersen had a starting spot in the Norwegian squad. His Rotterdam teammate Fredrik Aursnes was missing.
