Not Monday, but Tuesday the Tour de France continues. Not on Danish territory this time, because the peloton is taking advantage of the ‘rest day’ to travel to the north of France. Who are the favorites? That discusses In the leader’s jersey for you in the article below!
Route stage 4 Tour de France 2022
Dunkirk: that is a place name that we are familiar with in cycling. For example of the Four Days of Dunkirk, which is held every year. The riders will start their fourth stage in the coastal town, after which they will be on the bike for 171 kilometers. On the way to the finish in Calais they will encounter six climbs of the fourth category.
In itself, the climbs in stage 4 are not too difficult. They are all no longer than two kilometers long and the gradients are not impossible either. However, the stage should not be completely underestimated. It can still be a very stressful ride for the sprinters. After most of the hills are over, the peloton drives along the coast to Calais. Perhaps the wind plays a role there.
Another exciting moment for the sprinters is the last climb of the day: the Côte du Cap Blanc-Nez. The top of this slope is just over ten kilometers from the finish. The climb is 900 meters long and has an average gradient of 7.5 percent. Since it is a fairly wide road, we expect sprinters to drop back at most here. Large fractures seem less likely.
After the climb, the riders will quickly reach the finish line. A short descent is followed by an otherwise completely flat end of the stage. In the bunch sprint, the riders still have to watch out for two roundabouts in the last kilometer, the last of which is located 450 meters from the finish. If you get through it unscathed, you can sprint at full speed on the last wide strip.
Weather stage 4 Tour de France 2022
The wind can again play an interesting role in the final of the fourth stage, but for the time being it does not seem that Tuesday is very strong. The direction is also not good for the time being to create fans in the coastal zone. Furthermore, it will be about 19 degrees and the sun will occasionally break through the clouds. So great racing weather!
Favorites stage 4 Tour de France 2022
In the fourth stage we expect to see a similar battle as we have already seen twice in Denmark. Fabio Jakobsen and Dylan Groenewegen won the first sprint opportunities and seem to be the big favorites for another victory, but the climb ten kilometers from the finish seems to be in favor of Wout van Aert† The jersey wearer and his team can make war here to make it difficult for the other sprinters. He will be eager for that victory, having already finished second three times this Tour.
Caleb Ewan and Mads Pedersen normally don’t turn their hands around for a hill more or less. The two fast men have to effortlessly get over the short climb. In front of Jasper Philipsen we don’t expect any problems either, although his team has Mathieu van der Poel perhaps another interesting trump card in hand. On paper, he seems well-suited for the ride, but he hasn’t interfered in the bunch sprints so far.
Peter Sagan and Danny van Poppel have shown themselves in the last stages in the bunch sprints, but both did not get further than fourth place. The question is whether they can manage it this time. Sagan will hope for a tougher final, with a fast pace on the climb. With that kind of finals, the Slovak has often been accurate in the past.
In addition, the peloton still has a number of outsiders. Then we mainly think about Alexander Kristoffbut also to the excellent sprinting Jeremy Lecroq. Other men who can surprise in the spider mite are Max Walscheid, Alberto Dainese and Luca Mozzato. Hugo Hofstetter is another man who can gain weight quickly while Jasper Stuyven and Christophe Laporte normally will have to pass other men within their teams. They will be no more than a Plan B.
