Southampton is watching Marcus Pedersen with above-average interest, it knows The Athletic report on Sunday evening. The Saints would like to attract the right back of Feyenoord to, among other things, fill the gap that left injured Tino Liveramto until mid-2023. According to the generally reliable 1908.nl Southampton has already submitted an offer to the Rotterdam team, although the British medium does not mention this.

At the end of June reported 1908.nl already that Feyenoord has received an offer of unknown height from Southampton. From the confirmation of The Athletic it turns out that manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has still not put Pedersen out of his mind in the search for a suitable right-back. In the same breath as the Norwegian, the names of Brandon Williams (Manchester United) and Issa Kaboré (Manchester City, loaned to Troyes) are also considered suitable candidates. According to reports, a new right-back will not be signed until next Wednesday, when Southampton goes on training camp to Austria.

At right back, Pedersen should compete with Kyle Walker-Peters. The latter is currently the only fit right-wing defender in the selection, as the injured Tino Liveramto is not available for the time being. Southampton also does not rule out the possibility that Walkers-Peters will leave the club this summer. The 25-year-old defender is in the interest of several Premier League clubs.

Pedersen came over from Molde FK in the summer of 2021 for approximately one million euros. The thirteen-time Norwegian international was almost always sure of a basic place under trainer Arne Slot, certainly in the first half of the season, but in the second part of last football year he often had to tolerate Lutsharel Geertruida in the pecking order. What Southampton is willing to pay for the Pedersen is as yet unknown. The estimated market value (Transfermarkt) of the 21-year-old defender is 4.5 million euros.

In mid-June, Pedersen’s girlfriend, hockey star Noor Omrani, spoke to Football zone already briefly discussed a possible next step for Pedersen and her preferred destination. “England, London. I don’t like Italy much. Spain is beautiful. And that is also the best thing for me, because then I can continue playing hockey.”
