FC Barcelona booked the first league win of the season in La Liga on Sunday. Coach Xavi’s team won with base customer Frenkie de Jong at Real Sociedad: 1-4. In Italy Atalanta drew 1-1 against AC Milan in front of their own audience and Fiorentina had a bad general before the return against FC Twente.
Barcelona had a lightning start against Real Sociedad and took the lead after fifty seconds. Robert Lewandowski tapped in at close range on his 34th birthday after preparatory work from Alejandro Baldé to score his first official goal for the Catalans.
Just five minutes later, Sociedad tied the score after an error by De Jong. The Orange international, who had a base place, suffered a loss of ball at the center line and then saw former Willem II striker Alexander Isak make the 1-1.
Barcelona then had a difficult time and almost fell behind just before half-time, but Marc-André ter Stegen kept David Silva from scoring. Early in the second half, Sociedad found the net, but Brais Méndez’s goal was rejected for offside after the intervention of the VAR.

Substitute Fati leads Barcelona to victory with goal and two assists
After more than an hour of play, Xavi intervened and brought in Ansu Fati and Raphinha. That quickly resulted in a lead for Barcelona. After a nice heel by Fati, Ousmane Dembélé made the 1-2 and two minutes later, Fati also provided the assist for Lewandowski’s 1-3.
More than ten minutes before the end, Fati also found the goal after a wonderful assist from Lewandowski. De Jong was substituted six minutes before time. Memphis Depay stayed on the bench at Barcelona.
Earlier in the evening, Atlético Madrid suffered their first league defeat of the season at home against Villarreal: 0-2. Yerry Pino opened the score more than fifteen minutes before the end with a shot into the far corner.
Deep into injury time, Atlético ended up with ten men due to a red card for Nahuel Molina. Shortly afterwards, Gerard Moreno secured the three points for Villarreal, where Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld was missing due to an injury.

In Italy, Atalanta took the lead against AC Milan after half an hour via Ruslan Malinovskyi. The Ukrainian opened the score with a changed direction from long range.
Halfway through the second half, Milan equalized via Ismaël Bennacer. The Algerian curled the ball nicely into the left corner. After that, no more goals were scored in Bergamo. Marten de Roon, Hans Hateboer and Teun Koopmeiners all had a basic place at Atalanta.

Last Thursday, Fiorentina won the first leg in the play-offs of the Conference League against FC Twente in the Stadio Artemio Franchi with 2-1. The return is scheduled for next Thursday in Enschede.
Napoli booked a simple victory over PhD student Monza in front of their own audience: 4-0. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice for the home side. The other goals were scored by Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-jae. At Bologna, former FC Volendam player Dense Kasius provided an assist against Hellas Verona: 1-1.
