AS Roma started the season with 6 out of 6, just like last year. Jose Mourinho’s squad dedicated its frugal win against Cremonese to the unfortunate Georginio Wijnaldum, who broke his shin in training. Cyriel Dessers could almost spoil the tribute with the equalizer.
Mourinho had expressed his support for Wijnaldum before kick-off and the players also supported their teammate.
But the most beautiful tribute came in the match. Chris Smalling headed in on a corner and celebrated the opening goal with a shirt from the Dutchman in his hands.
Cremonese nevertheless had chances to spoil the tribute for the Romans, but Cyriel Dessers (ex-Genk) had no luck in the finish. Two kicks resulted in no goal and shortly after the break he aimed for the crossbar.
Charles Pickel also made the goal stick vibrate for the visitors. Cremonese, for example, was stuck on a 1-0 defeat.
