Tired Bol goes for second overall win in Diamond League

12.19 pm: Femke Bol says she is “a bit tired”, but also very motivated to win the Diamond League classification of the 400 meters hurdles, just like last year. The three-time European champion will participate in her favorite part in Lausanne on Friday evening. “I won the Diamond League last year and now I really want to do it again. Two more races to go this season, I’m really looking forward to that,” said the 22-year-old Amersfoortse at the press conference in the Swiss city.

Bol delivered a unique performance at the European Championships in Munich by becoming the first female athlete to win both the 400-meter flat and the 400-meter hurdles. She also gave the Dutch relay team the gold in the 4×400 meters.

“This was a unique opportunity to go for the ‘double’. You never know if I’ll try that again in the future, but for now it was a one off. At the moment I haven’t won a gold medal at the Olympics and the World Cup. I want to do that first before I might try the ‘double’ again”, says Bol.

She spent most of the last few days sleeping. “I slept well and ate well and also exercised every day to keep my body ‘awake’. I’m a little tired, but that’s normal at the end of the season. I still feel good and happy, which also helps to reduce the fatigue in my legs. It’s a mental issue. I have to stay focused. Two more races, in Lausanne and Zurich, then it’s done.”

Bol participated in the 400 meter hurdles three times in the Diamond League this year and won them all. With 24 points, she is second in the standings behind Anna Rizhikova from Ukraine, who ran all five games and has 29 points. The main competitor for Bol in Lausanne is the American Dalilah Muhammad, the number 2 of the Olympic Games and number 3 of last month’s World Cup in Eugene. Bol took bronze in Tokyo last year and silver at the World Cup. Both times the gold went to the unapproachable American Sydney McLaughlin, who set a world record in Eugene with 50.68 seconds. McLaughlin is missing from Lausanne.

“She is a great athlete, but it just motivates me even more to get better myself. The 400 meters hurdles is a puzzle, I am constantly trying to figure out how to run them together with my coach,” said Bol. “I am now quite close to the hurdles in the beginning, maybe I will try to take a step less.”

Badminton players Piek andtabeling eliminated at World Cup

09:52 o’clock: The mixed badminton duo Selena Piek/Robintabeling was eliminated in the eighth finals at the World Cup in Tokyo. The home playing couple Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, placed third, was 21-12 21-19 too strong in a match that lasted 40 minutes.

Certainly in the first game, the Japanese were too strong for the Dutch couple, which is twentieth in the world ranking. In the second game, Piek and Tafeling took a lead halfway through and held it towards the end, but Watanabe and Higashino still took the game to themselves.

Piek and Tafeling were the only Dutchmen who still took action on Thursday at the World Cup, which last until Sunday.

Ten Hag with Manchester United in League Cup against Aston Villa

07:36 am: Trainer Erik ten Hag takes on Aston Villa with Manchester United in the League Cup tournament. In the third round draw, the ‘Mancunians’ were matched with manager Steven Gerrard’s squad. The Ten Hag team will play at home in November.

Manchester United and Aston Villa will then face each other twice in a short time. On November 5, the clubs will meet for the Premier League in Birmingham, a few days later Manchester United and Aston Villa will face each other again in the second English cup tournament at Old Trafford.

The most notable poster of the third round of the League Cup is Manchester City – Chelsea. Defending champions Liverpool, who defeated Chelsea in the final last season via penalties, play at their own Anfield against Derby County, which plays at the third level (League One). Arsenal, the current leader of the Premier League, was linked to Brighton & Hove Albion. Tottenham Hotspur will face Nottingham Forest.
